Every year
on the first Monday of October we reflect on the state of our cities and towns
and what we want the cities of our future to look like.
This year,
the United Nations chose the theme Urban Mobility because mobility and access
to goods and services is essential to the efficient functioning of our cities
and towns as they expand.

устойчивым видам транспорта и стимулируют все больше людей оставить автомобили
и отдать предпочтение поездам, автобусам, велосипедным дорожкам и тротуарам.
Со временем стало очевидно, что “автомобильность” реально
стоит обществу слышком дорого – это и чересчур разросшиеся города, загрязнение
воздуха, шум, изменение климата, дорожно-транспортные происшествия и даже
физическое разделение людей по классам и расам.”

By choosing
CULTURE- ARCHITECTURE as the theme for the 2013 World Architecture Day, the UIA
hopes to generate a wellspring of interpretations and illustrations of
architects' diversity, richness, imagination, and capacity for invention
through their designs and realizations.
UIA also
hopes to affiliate its members with the UNESCO declaration entitled: Placing
Culture at the Heart of Sustainable Development Policies, that was drafted in
Hangzhou, PR of China, last May.
This
declaration advocates a new approach to sustainable development and calls on
governments, civil society and the private sector to utilize cultural resources
to face the planet's most urgent development challenges: environmental
sustainability, poverty and social inclusion.

USA The aim of this International Competition is to design a New Prison afloat the Pacific Ocean, using an oil Platform as a reference structure. The design of this new Platform will include all the facilities a prison may need including cells, exercise yard, etc.. with a design that still facilitates human rights within the deemed confinement.

120 Hours Competition
On-line registration and submission
Norway 120 HOURS is as an independent competition organized by students on a non-profit, voluntary basis without the involvement of a school administration. 120 HOURS offers fresh ideas on relevant architectural topics while giving students a voice in the current architectural discourse. 120 aims to be challenging and fun to participate in, and will give students a relevant first encounter with architectural competitions.
